  Just wanted to say one part of our experience with housing inspection. We rented a troubled property (items are not up to code, a neighbor by all apparent signs was doing hard drugs that were airborne) and had it inspected. The hygienist was clearly more aware of what could be real issues than the inspector. The inspector repeatedly said that cats are "filthy animals" and asked about our litter box cleaning (the cat and ourselves had been out of the place for almost a month but we had left one litter box in our haste). I really do feel that someone who is so virulently anti-cat cannot give a fair assessment of the situation. We could not sleep with the sweats in 66° air conditioning for two weeks. That's not from our cat's poop in a litter box on the other side of the house. Also, the housing inspector mentioned with a bit of disgust that there was "cat poop" on the floor/wall in one place. That was actually vomit, from when the cat puked from the fumes on a particularly bad night. After we mentioned that, he immediately went right off the topic of our cat even being sick from the drug fumes, and went right back to talking about litter boxes and how cats are disgusting. Really? The water heater isn't up to code (no drip tray, no switch to cut it off, no expansion pod) but apparently that's okay since it was installed 8 years ago and apparently the landlord doesn't need to bring it up to code, and when the landlord tells us to "maybe put a fan in the window" to cut down on the second-hand hard drugs that are getting into the unit, that's a supposedly feasibly solution. Like we didn't have a giant AC unit in the wall pushing air in from the outside in a desperate attempt to sleep after two weeks of vomiting and zero sleep. God, Boulder government is a circled wagon around all these egomaniacal property owners whose values on paper have skyrocketed. You really think our cat of 13 years managed to make us have meth/crack poisoning symptoms for TWO WEEKS STRAIGHT, and then when we move out WITH THE CAT, those symptoms vanish? That's some crack police work, Lou.
